The Legacy

The Legacy

A modern take on a classic design! Designed and built to honor the legacy of the owner’s father, who built the original 1970s cottage. Working with our clients, we took inspiration from the original home, but brought it into the 21st century with modern features and new age construction methods.

Our design team carefully planned every detail, adding a walkout basement and expanding the living spaces to ensure maximum functionality. The addition of a two-car detached garage, with decking, cleverly conceals the elevation change, while rock retaining walls on both sides of the cottage provide drainage and steps to the lake, integrating the landscape seamlessly into the design. Constructed using superior insulated walls, a SIP roof system, and in-floor heating backed up with a forced air furnace, this cottage is energy-efficient! The homeowners can rest easy, knowing that their cottage is warm and cozy all year round.

The main level features an open-concept great room with vaulted ceilings, exposed timber rafters, and large south-facing windows that flood the space with natural light and stunning views. A wood-burning stove with a full stone wall behind adds warmth and charm to the space. The kitchen is a chef’s dream, with a 9-ft ceiling, three walls of cabinetry, quartz countertops, lake view windows, and a movable island. The upper-level loft with 4 tiered windows overlooking the great room, two spacious bedrooms with a shared ensuite, and a floating staircase with slate flooring and glass railing. The lower level offers a walkout to the lakeside, a cozy family room with a natural stone wall, a bedroom next to a full bath, and a laundry/utility room.

Other design features include textured fir countertops in the kitchen, bathroom, and entrance bench, a stone sink on a rough sawn textured fir countertop in the powder room, and pebble stone and tile in the master shower. Natural stone walls on the lakeside walkout level, glass and pebble tile showers in the master ensuite, and a floating metal staircase with thick fir treads and glass railing all add to the charm and beauty of this home.

In addition, the cottage features a directional bored waterline to the lake, a water treatment system with RO and UV systems, and a septic tank placed below the deck, cleverly accessed via a walkway on the side of the garage. Overall, our lakefront cottage is a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, boasting unique design features, exceptional functionality, and energy efficiency, ensuring its longevity for generations to come.
