Wide-Open Glass, Steel, and Trees!
Our clients came to us with one picture – a cottage with exposed cedar ends supporting the roofline.
“Can you do this?” So we did!
Not only did we incorporate live edge trees into the design of this home, we mixed in some traditional fir timber and major steel structure components to create a blend of natural wood with a little industrial flare. The Tree House is loaded with detail and many with great stories.
With a history and knack for metal fabrication, the homeowner ended up being a major contributor to some of the unique features. To complement some of the major steel structures, Max and the owner worked together on site to build open steel stairs to match. We used reclaimed douglas fir from a Saskatchewan grain elevator to create thick stair treads, and cable railing with topless glass to maintain an uninterrupted view from the loft.
The owner created a few other details out of steel for the kitchen, and other areas throughout the home. A lot of clever ideas, onsite brainstorming, and sometimes a little unusual practice for residential building brought this home to life.
In the evening light, the view from the outside-in, is as stunning as gazing out during the day.
