The Craft House

The Craft House

We believe that a home should reflect its owners, and this design beautifully exemplifies that belief. The goal was to create a distinctive home for the owners that stands out from other homes built in the area.

To avoid looking excessively large on the lot, we utilized innovative design techniques. We incorporated a mid-level that not only adds functionality to the interior but also enhances the exterior appearance. The mid-level office served as a focal point to draw attention away from the home’s size, while the cascading floor-levels and rooflines showcased the beautiful exterior trims and finishes. The front entrance is dignified by tapered shaker columns and a beautiful composite porch that is trimmed with the same materials as the windows and doors.

The kitchen effortlessly connects to the dining and living room, while preserving their individual spaces. Storage is plentiful with a full-sized fridge and freezer, along with a generously sized pantry that leads to the mudroom and private family entrance connected to the garage.

Incorporated into the dining room is a bar, with a unique and captivating feature that caters to the homeowner’s passion for crafting beer. We integrated a set of fully operational beer taps, allowing the owner to have two distinct drafts on hand at any moment. The kegs are conveniently stored downstairs in a modified refrigeration unit, expertly maintained at the optimal temperature for consumption and effortlessly aided with a state-of-the-art CO2 pressure system. To guarantee the beer in the lines remains cold, we incorporated a sophisticated glycol cooling system to circulate chilled glycol around the beer lines. This ensures that the beer is always at the perfect temperature, with each pour as fresh and flavorful as the last, no matter how long it has been since the previous pint.

The living room was designed with multiple banks of picture windows that provide abundant natural light and beautiful views of the park, rear yard, and deck. In order to enhance the aesthetic appeal of various drywall surfaces in the house, we incorporated elegant decorative mouldings that replicate traditional wood paneling. These panels are present in every part of the house.

Halfway up the stairs to the bedrooms on the second floor, the mid-level street view office is separated from the rest of the home providing a quiet place to be productive, regardless of what’s going on elsewhere.

The Master Bedroom is a spacious retreat with ample room for a comfortable hang out area. Bedside sconces are built into the wall for convenient bedside lighting. The attached ensuite offers a luxurious experience, complete with a double vanity, large picture windows, a private water closet, and a beautiful free-standing tub. The shower area is generously sized, providing ample space for two ;)

Although quite young at the time, the children’s personalities were kept in mind when designing their individual bedrooms, resulting in unique and spacious sanctuaries for each. A shared Jack & Jill bathroom connects the rooms, but to ensure privacy, each child has their own vanity with a sink. The rooms also have built-in writing desks, perfect for completing homework or indulging in hobbies. Expansive wardrobes were installed to ensure that they won’t outgrow their space.

When creating a comfortable living space, it’s important to take all family members into consideration, including our furry friends. In this home, Todd the cat was given a special spot under the end of the kitchen island. This designated area provides a tidy and convenient place for Todd’s food, dishes, and treats to be stored, ensuring he’s always happy and well-fed.

With plenty of space and a unique lower-level layout, we were able to fulfill their request for a home gym in a prime location. The gym is spacious, featuring dedicated space for a treadmill, a versatile weight bench, and an area for floor exercises. To amplify both the functionality and visual appeal, we mounted expansive mirrors on the walls and laid the floor with durable shock-absorbent rubber mats.

This home is a testament to the fact that a house is not just a building, but a reflection of the people who call it home. The clients’ desire for a functional, yet stylish space was evident in every aspect of the design. With space for each family member and personalized touches throughout, this home is truly a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that will continue to bring joy and comfort for years to come.
